Hi Friends - I figured I would cover this topic as we are diving into summer because frankly, summer used to be one of those seasons I had a love/hate with. Loved the weather, hated the fact that I had to show my body. For years, I was uncomfortable in my skin, and even more so, uncomfortable in less clothing (i.e. bathing suits, shorts, etc.). For those that read/listened to my post about a year ago, you know that I started Zepbound - with the guidance of a doctor - to help me get back to the place I was before kids. Having had my children into my 40s, my metabolism was not my BFF when it came time to lose weight. This isn’t an excuse, it’s just a simple fact: perimenopause and hormones impacted my body’s ability to reflect the work I was putting in: working out and eating healthier. So after I did a full lab work-up, I got on Zepbound and ended up losing the 10-15lbs I wanted to. It has been a game changer, and so many of you have been shot-curious, that I wanted to answer some of the most frequently asked questions with full transparency.

Are you still on the shot?

Yes. Some people choose to get off, I have chosen to stay on it. This was a decision I came to jointly with my doctor. Here are the reasons why.

  1. I don’t have any negative side effects. I never have. For me, all it does is quiet the food noise and helps me realize when my body is in fact full.

  2. There is no reason to stop. My doctor explained it so well: if you’re on a thyroid medicine, you take Synthroid because your body needs the help to produce the hormone that supports your thyroid (which also has a role in your metabolism). Once you are diagnosed, and your thyroid levels balance out, you don’t just stop taking the medicine. You stay on it or you are back to ground zero. GLP-1 and semi-glutides do the same thing: they support the brain in producing the hormone that they otherwise aren’t able to and in turn, aren’t able to lose weight. Are some people misusing it? Of course. But I also have been working with a doctor since day 1 and continue to have quarterly appointments.
