Welp, here we go. I kept hearing the word “substack” over the last little while and frankly didn’t know what it was until the other day. I just assumed it was another word for “blog” and maybe it is just that, but alas my curiosity was peaked.
See, a little over 2 years ago, my girlfriend Molly and I started a podcast called “lipstick on the rim” and it was a place where we could just talk about all things beauty, health and wellness. That turned into me posting about it on instagram, which kinda started to grow into this amazing community. But IG only allows you to be so verbose, and people don’t really want to hear you ramble on (and let me tell you, I can ramble!). So when I did some digging on this “substack” world, I got into the idea of having a place where people who may be so inclined to hear me ramble, can in turn read me rambling (does that make sense?).
For those that don’t know a lick about me, here’s the cliffs notes:
My name is Emese Gormley (pronounced Em-uh-shuh”), I’m 45 years old, live in NJ with my husband and three beautiful daughters, Maeve, Grace and Lily. Last year, Grace was diagnosed with B-ALL, which is a highly curable form of blood cancer (and the most common in children). We had a crap year, are still in treatment, but she is doing great and we as a family are stronger than ever. Our girl crushes it at school, doesn’t let anything stop her and is going to do BIG things. HUGE.
(a little pic of our fam in Rhode Island this August)
I have worked in the fashion industry for over 20 years - as global communications for Diane von Furstenberg, to consulting for brands like Revolve, Ring Concierge and so many more. Fashion is in my blood. My grandmother was a seamstress, and as a result my mom loved clothes and bags and shoes and passed that love right on to me. But I also have always loved beauty. Since I was about 5 or 6 years old, I would play with makeup - and was pretty decent at it. My mom would even let me do her makeup for parties or nights out. I know every foundation on the market, can tell you the texture, how it stays, etc. I’ve never met a nudey-pink lipgloss I don’t love. And skincare is my vice. So to have a platform that allows me to share all my discoveries feels like a win to me - and hopefully to you, if you’ve managed to read this far.
For now, I won’t ramble any further because I don’t want to scare anyone away too soon. But this space is where I think I can really let loose - share all my finds, my faves, places I like to go and do something I love to do as much as I love talking: write. Spread the good word to anyone you think might enjoy, and feel free to tell me what you want to hear me “write” about. Thank you for following along xx Em
