Hi friends - I’m sorry I have been less active on here in the last few weeks. To be honest, I have been exhausted. I’ve traveled a lot (for me!), missed my kids, worked a lot (which I’m thankful for), and shouldered a lot of guilt all at the same time. Every morning I wake up with such huge aspirations for the day - workout! Clean! Organize my closet! I could go on, but you get the idea. Instead I find myself overwhelmed and barely making a dent in the “to-do” list. But being aware is half the battle and I’m putting things in place to help me be more organized. So please bear with me!!
I spent last weekend in Austin - it was so lovely. We had a Dear Media IRL - which for those wondering, it’s basically an “In Real Life” with a bunch of Dear Media’s podcast hosts. Everyone from Girl With No Job to Lauryn Bosstick was there doing different panels about different topics. It was a really amazing way to connect with the community, meet some of our listeners and of course - talk fashion. I was very into my outfit so will share it here for you. Daunting to put an outfit together when you’re speaking on a fashion and style panel but I feel like I did ok.
But I also feel like after 2 trips to Austin in the last 2 months, I have some great Austin tips that I need to share, so will start with that.
SHOPPING
By George (524 North Lamar Blvd) is a great spot with incredible brands. Their buy and edit is pure perfection. Just take a look their shoe selection - some styles I have never seen anywhere else. That is always the secret sauce to a great store.
I also made my first The Row denim purchase. I can’t explain it - they just look dressier than normal jeans.
Valentines (1515 W. 35th Street) is another great shop - it reminds me so much of my sweet Tea & Oranges in my town. They have a lot of the same brands that you honestly can’t find anywhere else. Brands like Momoni, a great Italian brand with beautiful and unique pieces that aren’t budget breakers. The jewelry edit is amazing too - I was eyeing these guitar pic earrings that sound weird but are stunning (but alas, WAAAY too expensive to purchase lol). And right outside of the shop is an amazing little bakery with a walk-up window that I immediately needed to buy cookies from called Milk + Cookies.
EATING
La Piscina has the single best steak tacos I have ever had. Full stop. The restaurant is in the Proper Hotel (the only place to stay IMHO). The bar at the hotel is a scene every night (I just walked right past and went to bed though). Uchiba has incredible sushi you will not want to stop eating. Sushi is truly my favorite food on earth so the fact that I got to indulge in it while there was a win - Jersey doesn’t have the best options, or at least none in my town sadly.
After Austin, I had to go to LA for two days to record the podcast. A whirlwind for sure, but got to see some friends, have Cinco de Mayo with some really good tacos and margs and interview some amazing people (can’t share that all yet). I also finally got to meet Adina Reyter in person and she is as lovely as she is talented at designing jewelry. She brought me an ankle bracelet because I have a weird new obsession with them lately.
Somehow my suitcase was a little fuller after leaving LA - unsure why, but alas the struggle was real in trying to get my bag closed. I know we’ve all been there!
Hope everyone is doing great and has a lovely weekend - and if you’re celebrating Mother’s Day, I hope you are spoiled rotten. xx Emese
What brand are your Mary Jane’s in the last picture? They look so cute and comfy.
And who makes your cute shirt in the pic with Adina? Xo
